I've heard this proverb many many times, most of it from movies... Never really try to understand it because I just don't care...
Basically, the more friends you have, the more enemies will be around you.. And the closer they are to you, your enemies will be even closer....That's what it is trying to tell you.... Friends can be lovely, and deadly too if you let your guard down....
Human doesn't have mind reading ability... That's what makes human unpredictable, you think you know but think again.... You will never know whether a person close to you is hating you or plotting a big surprise behind you...
Why hor people can be like that.. Jealousy? Love? Hatred? Greed?

jerry, i think when they thought up that saying... 'friends' and 'enemies' are considered 2 seperate entities... u shudnt think of ur friends as ur enemies... u shud luv them... or at least i think so... hmm... come to think of it, im a bit confused too...

Enemies are fun. I get to vent my anger at them and swing profanity and sarcasm at them without feeling bad. If you have any, be sure to let them know that you're having fun hating them. Nothing annoys them more than to see you happy. :)

Lucas - To make it simple, sometimes there are arguement between friends.. So when these 2 friends are having an argument (even though they might be best friends or whatever) , they are on the verdict of becoming a better friends OR become enemy the next day... So what is the cause of argument?? Love Hate Greed Jealousy and many other reasons..
regarding friends... Things are not always what it may seem. It's a complicated world. Friends can be enemies in hiding, disguised and waiting for the moment to hurt us. I guess I agree with ya =)
I don't really know who are my 'real' friends now. Honestly, I think of them as friends but I don't know if they are the same.
And I kinda agree with Evann. I don't call them enemies though, but people that dislike me I would irritate them by being happy. I don't lash back at them. Not a single word. Just a smile can make them go berserk! And seeing them getting mad just makes me happier.
So practically I don't have 'real' friends nor enemies I guess. Everyone are just around me and they either like me or dislike me or no feeling or whatsoever.

Jerry, I stay at a low profile among my friends in Kepong. But in uni I am actually quite the main attraction of my coursemates. I am the loudest and most opinionated in classes and even outside of class. But I wonder why I am different when I am around these different circles. Its confusing trying to identify which iz the 'real' me =.="
